Injury Update

Defensive end Jacques Cesaire was able to get some work in Thursday and that's encouraging for the Chargers. The Chargers are already thin at the spot opposite starter Igor Olshansky. Luis Castillo, the other starter, will miss his fifth straight game with an ankle injury.

Jacques Cesaire's presence is essential. But Cesaire, who has 2.5 sacks, had thumb surgery on Monday. And he didn't work Wednesday.

However, it seems Cesaire is on track to play Sunday in Tennessee. But his status is worth watching during the game. Especially with one of Cesaire's strengths being his knack for batting down passes at the line of scrimmage -- he had two in last Sunday's win at Kansas City.

But with a freshly repaired thumb, that might change.

If Cesaire has to be spelled early or more often, Ryon Bingham gets the call and he has been playing well of late. He has 1.5 sacks in seeing more playing time with Luis Castillo down. Both Cesaire and Bingham have played well while being asked to do more during Castillo's absence.

Castillo is hopeful he can return Dec. 24 for the game against Denver.

But first comes Tennessee and mobile quarterback Vince Young. The Chargers will need a solid rotation of defensive linemen to keep them fresh in chasing Young. Having Cesaire available would be a big help.
