Giants place David Wilson on season-ending IR

David Wilson received disappointing news from doctors this week when they told him he will miss the rest of the 2013 campaign with a neck injury.

The New York Giants had big expectations for running back David Wilson heading into the 2013 season. Sadly though, those expectations haven't been met by Wilson, who has been a disappointment for the Giants in their running game. He has had troubles running through holes, pass blocking, and most importantly holding on to the football.

Unfortunately for Wilson, he injured his neck during the Giants Week 5 matchup against NFC East Division rival the Philadelphia Eagles and has been sidelined ever since. Now Wilson is done for the season after being placed on the injured reserved list earlier this week to make room for the return of running back Andre Brown.

The decision to put Wilson on IR came after Wilson had a MRI scan on his neck to see if there was any chance he could still play this season.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin spoke out about the status of Wilson injury long term from the MRI results earlier this week to the media saying.

"I don't know what to think because it's obvious that medically there's no green light, so we're still in a holding pattern, believing that he's going to get better."

Wilson hopefully for the Giants; sake will not need surgery on his neck, and will be ready to go for the start of next season.

Coughlin comment on if Wilson will need surgery said "I would doubt that."

Since Wilson has been sidelined the Giants have used a rotation of running backs from veteran Brandon Jacobs to 2013 seventh round pick Michael Cox to mid-season signing Peyton Hillis.

Game Note: The Giants will be in action Sunday afternoon at MetLife stadium, where they will take on the Oakland Raiders and try to go for a season high third straight win on the season.
