Packers Add Hill To Still-Depleted RB Corps

The Packers promoted running back Michael Hill after James Starks and John Kuhn were out on Monday. Hill was a finalist for the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy as a senior.

With a short-handed running back corps, the Green Bay Packers promoted Michael Hill from their practice squad before Monday's practice.

Running back James Starks and fullback John Kuhn were not at Monday's practice, the first after last week's bye. Starks injured a knee during the first half of the Week 3 game at Cincinnati and Kuhn injured a hamstring late in Week 2 victory over Washington.

Hill joined Eddie Lacy, who was back from a concussion sustained in Week 2, and rookie Johnathan Franklin, who was momentarily sidelined by a foot injury late in the Cincinnati game.

Hill (5-10, 210) is an undrafted rookie out of Missouri Western. He spent training camp with San Diego but was released among its final cuts after rushing for 60 yards on 21 carries (2.9 average). The Packers signed him to their practice squad on Sept. 2. Hill, who had a predraft visit with the Packers and was courted by the team after the draft, owns school records with 4,969 rushing yards and 35 rushing touchdowns. He rushed for 2,168 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior, when he was named a finalist for the Harlan Hill Award, which is Division II's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. A late addition to the Raycom College All-Star Classic, he was the game's MVP with 12 carries for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Twenty-two players from the powerful SEC played in that game.

To take Hill's spot on the practice squad, the Packers signed receiver Reggie Dunn (5-9, 178). An undrafted rookie out of Utah, Dunn averaged a stunning 51.3 yards on 10 kickoff returns with four touchdowns. He spent training camp with Pittsburgh. He caught one pass for 10 yards, averaged 9.9 yards on seven punt returns and took his two kickoff returns back for 30 and 43 yards.
