| Tampa Bay's starting Pro Bowl weakside linebacker signed a four-year contract extension in 2001. The deal was believed to make Brooks the highest paid linebacker in the NFL. Brooks' contract runs through the 2006 season.
The 29-year old Brooks has been voted to five consecutive Pro Bowls (1997-2001) and was named to the All-Pro team 1999 and 2000. In 2000, Brooks was named Tampa Bay's Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive season as he led the team in tackles for the third straight year.
Brooks was hampered by a nagging foot injury throughout the 2001 season, but still he managed to lead the team in tackles and earn a Pro Bowl birth.
Since becoming a Buccaneer in 1995 (first-round draft pick), Brooks has accumulated over 1,000 career tackles, which ranks second all-time in franchise history.
