| Biography: |
Junior Seau was originally drafted by the Chargers in the first round of the 1990 NFL Draft, 5th overall.
Junior Seau, #55, is synonomous with the name "Chargers". An incredible combination of speed, strength and desire, Junior Seau is considered by many as the best linebacker in football today and one of the best in NFL history. He’s coming off a 2001 season in which he was voted to a team-record 11th-consecutive Pro Bowl, the second-most consecutive appearances by a player in the NFL since 1970. Only former Tampa Bay guard Randall McDaniel played in more than Seau, appearing in 12 consecutive Pro Bowls from 1989-2000.
NFL
In 2002 Seau has been an inspirational leader and teacher. He has been hobbled by a bum ankle yet has still displayed all the qualities that have followed him throughout his career. He has made the big stop and been there when his teammates needed him, all on one leg.
While playing in 187 games during his 12-year career he has racked up 1,396 tackles, 45.5 sacks and 14 interceptions. He’s been the team leader in tackles in eight of his 12 seasons, averaging 116 tackles a year.
Among the many honors Seau has had include, in 2000, he was named to the Chargers 40th Anniversary All-Time Team, the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team for the ’90s and selected as the NFL Alumni Association’s Linebacker of the Year.
College
Unanimous first-team All-America choice at Southern California after recording 19 sacks and 27 tackles behind line of scrimmage in 1989. He also posted six sacks in 1988 after sitting out season under NCAA Proposition 48 rules. |
