Tim Dwight was obtained via a trade with the Atlanta Falcons on the eve of the 2001 NFL Draft. After his arrival the Chargers rewarded Dwight with a 5 year, $15 million dollar contract during the 2002 offseason. He was a key part of the trade that sent the number one overall pick to the Falcons (Michael Vick) for the 5th overall pick (LaDainian Tomlinson), Dwight, a third rounder in 2001 (Tay Cody) and a 2nd rounder in 2002 (Reche Caldwell).

He enters the season as the No. 2 receiver for the Bolts and has been relieved of his punt return duties so he can stay healthy over a full season. Midway through the season he resumed the duites of punt returning.
2001
Caught 25 passes for 406 yards in 2001 before being injured with a collapsed lung. He was named AFC Special Teams Player of Week after registering 84-yard punt return for touchdown vs. Redskins Sept. 9.
He became the only player in the NFL to return a punt for a touchdown in each of the last three seasons and a punt or kickoff for a touchdown in each of the last four seasons.
