Toniu Fonoti was a second round draft pick of the Chargers in the 2002 NFL Draft, 39th overall.
NFL
Fonoti spent his sophomore season of 2003 on injured reserve. As a rookie, Fonoti started 16 games at right guard.
Scouting Report
Chargers Insiders had Fonoti tabbed as a late first round pick. Fonoti is a dominating run blocker from the University of Nebraska. He was just the fifth player in Nebraska annals to register over 300 pancakes (knockdowns) in a career, setting the school’s all-time record with 379, topping the previous mark of 377 set by Aaron Taylor (1995-97). Fonoti also holds the school’s single-season record with 201 pancakes in 2001, topping his own 2000 mark of 155.
NFL
Fonoti has emerged as the starting guard for the Chargers in his rookie season (2002). He is a force in the run game and has done very well in his pass protection. |
