San Diego Chargers Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer spoke out on various things just after the game. You could hear the relief in his voice as he reflected on the game.

San Diego Chargers Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer

On the Crowd at Qualcomm:

“I think the other part that needs to be mentioned is our crowd; our crowd clearly was the 12th man today. They did a tremendous, tremendous job. It’s the best since I have been here, and I have said it before and I will say it again, it is a tangible asset to a winning football program. To have a community of people in that stadium give us the kind of support that we got today. They played a hand in the victory.”

On LaDainian Tomlinson:

“The young man has great determination and obviously great skills, but the offensive line also did an excellent job throughout but there is no question that a number of those runs including his long ones in the first half were a product of his determination and heart that he just isn’t going on the ground.”

On Drew Brees:

He did an outstanding job, 8-4 as the starter and still tied for first I guess so…I have great confidence in him, I have great confidence in anything we call cause I know that he will make the right choice, the right decision.

On Wade Richey:

I was frustrated by the one that went out of bounds and then we gave them, he subsequent kick I had Steve kick since it called for a different kind of kick right at the half. I talked to Wade and asked him how he felt about being able to kick it and he said coach I think I can, he said I hope I can and I said go back out there and try it and it didn’t come back the way we hoped and we need to get back and look what’s going on there because he clearly wasn’t sure mechanically what the problem was."

On Jamal Williams and the hit he took that injured him:

“The game was not without loss though; Jamal Williams sustained a serious injury which we need to take a close look at. I haven’t seen the replay. I am going to take a very good look at it.”

Note:

Williams is lost for the year because of the hit he took from Steve Herndon. He sustained a dislocated ankle on the play.
