SDBoltReport.com's Michael Kranzler continues his series of rookie interviews, this time catching up with rookie guard Charles Manu. The massive lineman from Nevada talks about bouncing between guard and tackle, learning from the Chargers veterans and balancing fatherhood and football. Find out what else he has to say in this Q&A.

Click here for the "Insiders only" portion of this interview, where Manu talks about his younger brother's arrest, his transition from defense to offense and his development under the tutelage of Kris Dielman and Mike Goff.

Michael Kranzler: You are married and have three children. How hard was it to juggle being a student-athlete and a father and husband while at Nevada?

Charles Manu: It was hard. When I first got to Nevada I had two kids, and I just had my third one. It was definitely hard with school, practices, classes and everything.

MK: What made you choose to go to junior college [Feather River College] before transferring to Nevada?

CM: I didn’t really have an option. I had academic issues, so I had to go the JuCo route. I didn’t really have much of a choice, but it all worked out.

MK: Are you more comfortable at guard or tackle?

CM: I think I’m more comfortable at guard. I don’t really have the height or the body size for tackle, but I played tackle in college as well as both guard spots.

MK: What do you feel is your biggest strength on the field?

CM: I think I’m good at learning the plays quickly because I’m a visual learner. I just need to do what the veterans tell me and everything will be all right.

MK: What do you need to improve upon most in order to make this team?

CM: I just need to get down the playbook, and once I get there I’ll feel more comfortable and I’ll be able to go 110 percent on all of the plays. As long as I know what I’m doing, I’ll be all right.

MK: What do you like to do in your free time?

CM: I like to spend time with the kids, especially now. This is basically a job interview for me and I’m going to be away from them a lot, so I definitely enjoy spending time with the kids.
