As LaDainian Tomlinson closes in on 10,000 career rushing yards, there is no doubt he is worthy of No. 5 pick the Chargers spent on him in 2001. As for Jaguars receiver Matt Jones, he has first-round bust written all over him. Check out the latest news from both camps.

INSIDE CHARGERS CAMP:

LaDainian Tomlinson badly wants a win. More so, anyway, than reaching 10,000 rushing yards.

The Chargers' great running back arrives in Jacksonville on Sunday set to reach an impressive milestone. Tomlinson will try to become the 22nd player to hit the 10,000 yard mark.

But he's more worried about the inconsistent Chargers getting things right down the stretch than with putting his name alongside the other great backs.

"I haven't really thought about it but thinking about it off the top of my head right now, it will be a big accomplishment, obviously," Tomlinson said.

Just as obvious is that the Chargers have to rinse out the taste of two straight shaky performances, though the last one resulted in a win over the Super Bowl champion Colts.

The Chargers are 5-4 and in first place in the AFC West, but they know they have to get better as the season gets longer. Winning another AFC West title would be swell -- they have won two of the past three -- but the real standard is winning in the playoffs. That's something the Chargers haven't done since the 1994 season.

And really that's where Tomlinson's focus is: getting the Chargers to regain their confidence and hopefully make some noise in the postseason after their regular season started at 1-3.

Tomlinson, the NFL's MVP, never has been one to gaze at his honors. And if he hits 10,000 rushing yards, he won't fully embrace the mark until he's done trying to carry the Chargers on his back.

"I've always said I just want to play my career and see where I stand at the end of it," he said.

The Chargers need to make a stand in Jacksonville on Sunday against a physical opponent.

INSIDE JAGUARS CAMP:

Wide receiver Matt Jones will be in uniform Sunday against San Diego, but no longer appears to have a future with the Jaguars.

Jones will return against San Diego because rookie John Broussard has missed practice the last two days with an ankle injury.

Jones has been inactive for three games, including last week's game at Tennessee, and coach Jack Del Rio no longer seems eager to even discuss Jones' status.

On Monday, he said, "It's not worth talking about."

On Wednesday, when Del Rio was asked if Broussard has passed Jones if he's healthy, he said, "I don't get into discussions like that."

When he was asked what Jones' role on the team is, Del Rio said, "His role is to work at being the best football player he can be and be prepared to be available when the coach calls on him."

When Del Rio was asked if Jones will be called on, he said, "I don't like to get into hypotheticals, predictions and crystal-ball type stuff."

The Jaguars, though, left the questions about Jones off their transcript of the press conference.

On how he deals with being sidelined, Jones said, "You can't sulk about it or be upset. You've got to take advantage of your opportunities when they present themselves."

Jones' agent, Alan Herman, said of Jones being inactive three times, "This is kind of mind-boggling to me. It's clearly disappointing. This has got to be a dysfunctional relationship."

At this point, Herman said he wants to see how the situation plays out.
