What's next for L.T. and the Chargers?

History was on the side of the Green Bay Packers. Brett Favre and Donald Driver both reached milestones in helping the Packers overcome a pair of deficits. Philip Rivers found a rhythm but the Packers sang a louder tune and sent the Bolts home with a second consecutive defeat, 31-24.

What Worked

--The consistency of Quentin Jammer’s coverage provided a several good stops. The cornerback reached in and knocked out four passes in front of Donald Driver and James Jones. Jammer finished with four tackles, too.

--Antionio Cromartie is fast, physical and has something to prove. The former first-round pick out of Florida State broke up a potential toucdown pass from Favre to Greg Jennings and made four tackles on special teams.

--The 6-foot-4 frame of Antonio Gates wreaked havoc on the Green Bay defense. His size and agility overcame for the double coverage he received throughout the game. Gates hurt his right hand after making a first down early in the game but was taped up and went back in, finishing with 11 receptions and 113 yards receiving. The Packers gave several players to opportunity to cover Gates -- Charles Woodson, Nick Collins, A.J. Hawk, Atari Bigby and others -- and each of them was equally abused.

--A perfect throw from Philip Rivers ended stretch of scoreless first halves. The delivery found the hands of Vincent Jackson to culminate the opening drive. Jackson barely missed the century mark, finishing with 98 receiving yards.

--No. 1 draft pick Craig Davis busted through to the end zone for San Diego's second touchdown. It was Davis' first score as a pro and he was sure to save the ball as a keepsake.

--A reception earned LaDainian Tomlinson his longest play of the season, 21 yards, and a 21-17 lead over the Packers. It was Rivers third touchdown pass of the day, a season best.

--One of the few players able to apply consistent pressure on Favre was Jacques Cesaire, who was subbing for an injured Luis Castillo. Cesaire finished with three quarterback hurries. Shaun Phillips also fits in that category with 1½ sacks and five tackles on the day.

What Didn’t

--Frustration weighed down the defensive front seven. The unit, led by 2006 sack leader Shawne Merriman, could not reach 37-year-old Brett Favre, who was given a vast pocket to work with.

--San Diego continues to struggle on first down as opponents send run blitzes to fluster LaDainian Tomlinson. Norv Turner must consider reversing his philosophy and using the pass to set up the run.

--Drayton Florence provided clean-up detail for Marlon McCree. When the safety was overpowered and outran by Donald Driver, Florence was there to stop the play. McCree blew several tackles throughout the game.

--Rookie Eric Weddle was beaten by Driver for the Packers' first touchdown. Weddle was in good position but was beaten out by a diving Driver.

--The Chargers were not empathetic to Favre's record chasing but helplessly watched as the former MVP tied Dan Marino’s record for the most career passing touchdowns at 420. Driver also set a record for the most receptions in the history of Lambeau Field.

--The cool facade of the Rivers-L.T. duo started to crack under pressure. Last season’s dynamic duo exchanged frustrations on the sidelines early in the fourth quarter. Later in the quarter, Rivers was intercepted on a short pass intended for Tomlinson.

--Rivers found the rhythm he lacked in prior games but could not utilize his go-to running back. The offensive line was not able to get much movement against the Packers' eight- and nine-man fronts. The line sorely missed Shane Olivea’s road-grading presence.

--Green Bay’s veteran quarterback kept San Diego’s defense at bay with numerous pump fakes and by scrambling outside the pocket. Favre was sacked just twice and never turned the ball over.

--San Diego stayed turnover free most of the game; however, an interception in the fourth quarter was pivotal for Green Bay. The Packers scored two touchdowns in 64 seconds.

What’s Next

--The Chargers need to reestablish an identity. With a losing record, 1-2, the Bolts need to find a way to get L.T. some running room. The anticipated return of Olivea next week should help.

--In week four, the Chargers come back home after a two-game road trip to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
