Cory Withrow is accustomed to the role of backup - and has done it well over a seven-year career. He was a backup to Pro Bowl center Matt Birk in Minnesota and has continued his exploits in San Diego, backing up Pro Bowler Nick Hardwick.
Originally signed by the Chargers as a free agent in August of 2006, Withrow saw action in three games at center and spent the majority of the season assisting on special teams.
"Cory is a solid, experienced veteran who provides reliable depth for us along the offensive line," said Chargers general manager A.J. Smith. "Cory fills a valuable role for us. It's good to have him back."
With his new deal, Withrow becomes the 27th Charger whose contract with the team lasts through the 2009 season.
