The San Diego Chargers will reportedly name their new head coach as early as Monday. Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com has reported the Bolts will name Norv Turner their new head coach.

According to Glazer, Turner flew to San Diego on Sunday night to work out the parameters of a deal. This morning Turner informed his current boss Mike Nolan that he did in fact have the job and was moving on.

Defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell flew to San Diego on Monday where general manager A.J. Smith and Cottrell are expected to discuss contract terms. It's expected that if both sides agree on the terms, he could be offered the job today.

It's also believed that Cottrell is the real only candidate for their defensive coordinator opening which became vacant when Wade Phillips was named the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Cottrell has extensive work in the 3-4 scheme which the Chargers have used with Phillips coaching the defense.

Cottrell is currently the officer of arbitration for player fines for the NFL. Turner and Cottrell have never worked together.

Turner was San Diego's offensive coordinator in 2001. He has over 20 years of professional coaching experience – nine as a head coach and seven as an offensive coordinator in the NFL.

His last head coaching gig came with the Oakland Raiders where he went 9-23 over two seasons. Prior to that, Turner coached the Washington Redskins from 1994-2000, holding a regular-season record of 49-59-1.
