Brees suffers torn labrum
Drew Brees

Posted Jan 2, 2006

San Diego Chargers quarterback Drew Brees suffered a tear of his labrum in his right shoulder on Saturday, the team confirmed.

After fumbling the ball on his one-yard line, Brees dove into the pile for the loose ball and came away holding his right arm awkardly.

On Monday, the Chargers issued a statement in regards to the injury:

"Drew Brees had an MRI on Sunday that revealed he has a tear of the labrum in his right shoulder. Following a second consultation this week, Drew is expected to have surgery as soon as possible to expedite his rehabilitation to full recovery. The full extent of the injury and the expected length of the recovery period will not be known until after the surgery."

The normal recovery period for such an injury is 4-to-6 months but that will be determined by the Chargers after the surgery.
