After rushing for three touchdowns and earning another touchdown through the air, LaDainian Tomlinson is a three-time winner of the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award this year.
Tomlinson scored a hat trick against the Raiders, catching a 35-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees, scoring another touchdown on a seven-yard run, and throwing a four-yard touchdown pass to Justin Peelle. He also won the award following a 134-yard, twotouchdown performance in a 41-17 win over New England on Oct. 2 and again after a 192-yard, three-touchdown effort in a 45-23 ESPN Sunday Night Football win over the New York Giants on Sept. 25.
His four scores on Sunday against the Jets established a career-high.
Shawne Merriman is up for the Rookie of the Week award for the second time in as many weeks.
He recorded a team-leading seven tackles and one sack in the Chargers’ 31-26 victory over the New York Jets. Merriman sacked Jets quarterback Brooks Bollinger for an eight-yard loss midway through the fourth quarter with the Jets driving. He has five sacks this season.
