Chargers take third straight offensive linemen

Posted Apr 24, 2005

With the San Diego Chargers final pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, 242nd overall in the seventh round, the Bolts selected Scott Mruczkowski, a center from Bowling Green.

After taking three straight offensive players, and two straight offensive linemen, the Bolts again went back to solidifying and adding depth to the offensive line, selecting center Scott Mruczkowski.

The center prospect began his career playing guard, gaining two years of experience, before moving to the middle of the line.

A starter for 48 consecutive games, Mruczkowski allowed only 14 tackles, no sacks and shut out his main assignment (no sacks, pressures, tackles) in five consecutive contests during his senior season.

He suffered a right foot fracture prior to the 2003 season but did not miss any games. He also had a pin inserted in his foot after breaking his fifth metatarsal. At the Combines, Mruczkowski suffered a strained groin and could not compete in the speed drills.

His brother Gene plays for the New England Patriots.
