San Diego Chargers defensive tackle Ryon Bingham will have surgery to repair a strained biceps tendon. Although Coach Schottenheimer would not say the rookie was headed to injured reserve, he acknowledged that Bingham would miss a significant amount of time.

Ryon Bingham injured his biceps while running drills in Tuesday's training camp.

The 303 pound tackle out of Nebraska had been working at nose tackle behind Jamal Williams and Jason Fisk in the rotation.

Coming out of college he was heralded as a tough run defender and he immediately made his mark in the first preseason game, leading the line in tackles with four.

The injury bug is not something Bingham is unaccustomed to. He suffered a broken foot when he was in college and learned a great deal from being on the sidelines.

"I was out for twelve months," Bingham explained. "It took me to get back to be able to workout and train. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. It humbled me and gave me a reason to want to succeed. Plus I found my spiritual side through that. I was spiritually awakened and came to realize there was a higher power that helped me get through all that."
