Chargers send Dwight to IR

Wide receiver Tim Dwight has been placed on injured reserve by the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday. It marks the second time in three years that his season has been cut short.

Tim Dwight suffered a partially collapsed lung during the Chargers game at Denver on November 16th. He stayed in a Denver hospital before being released later that week.

It is similar to an injury that forced him to miss six games during the 2001 season, his first in San Diego.

Dwight is the tenth player and third wide receiver put on injured reserve by the Chargers this season.

Dwight recorded 14 receptions for 193 yards, and 22 kickoff returns for 488 yards on the season.

Reche Caldwell and Kassim Osgood are expected to get most of the playing time in the absence of Dwight.

Grant Mattos was signed from the practice squad to take Dwight’s spot on the active roster. Mattos, 6-2, 220, was active for two games earlier this season but did not have any receptions.

The Chargers re-signed wide receiver Dondre Gilliam to the practice squad to take Mattos' place. Gilliam played in three games this year, including one start at Oakland on Sept. 28 when he caught four passes for 67 yards to lead the team that day.
