WVU alumnus Owen Schmitt began his NFL career in the west with a two-year stint in Seattle (2008-09) before moving east to Philadelphia for another two years with the Eagles (2010-11). Now the rough and rowdy fullback is returning to the West Coast after signing a contract with the Oakland Raiders.
Schmitt's physical style should fit well with the Raiders, who have always carried the reputation for toughness. He'll need that in his battle to make the roster, as the Raiders list three other fullbacks heading into OTAs. They include three-year veteran Marcel Reece (6-3, 240), Treshawn Robinson (6-1, 246) and second year player Manasa Tonga (5-11, 245). Robinson was signed one day prior to Schmitt as a free agent. In his four NFL seasons, Schmitt has played in 61 games with 12 starts. He has nine career carries for 27 yards to go along with 34 receptions for 218 yards and two TDs.
