Chargers Team Report

A strange development at the first open camp of the offseason, the state of negotiations on a new stadium and a date to mark on your calendar in this week's edition of the San Diego Chargers Team Report.

--Now at QB: Cleo Lemon! Say what? When the Chargers threw open the doors this week for the media to observe one of their on-field summer school sessions, Lemon was with the first team. Lemon, who didn't survive the Ravens' camp last summer, was elevated from No. 4 to No. 1 for numerous reasons. Starter Drew Brees is still limited after offseason surgery to remove calcium deposits in his right leg; Doug Flutie was an excused absence; Seth Burford is playing in NFL Europe.

--The Chargers and the city of San Diego remain in negotiations over replacing Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers continue to be named among the possible teams to relocate to Los Angeles, a void the NFL is eager to fill.

--For the third straight year, LB Donnie Edwards is playing a new position. He was in the middle last year, on the strongside the previous season at Kansas City, and this season, he'll be on the weakside. "It's been a couple years since I've played (the position)," Edwards said. "But it's going to be fine."

--The team signed undrafted free-agent RB P.J. Mays. Mays ran for 3,374 yards and 41 touchdowns during his career at Youngstown State University.

--WR B.J. Lovett was also added on waivers, after he was released following the Browns' minicamp. Lovett caught 33 passes for 383 yards and four touchdowns last year for Michigan State.

--The Chargers minicamp is June 12-14. The third session, which is on a Saturday, is open to the public.
